Fresh Rebuild, Runs but won't Idle...

if he is going to redo them I would say it can’t hurt… ask him if you put xylene through it if that will melt the parafin

Good luck with your surgery Colin. Sounds like an awesome set-up you have there!

Schu, yeah, not a bad idea. If I could remedy this at home that would be ideal.

Thanks mrpenny. I gotta head down to the outpatient center in a few minutes. I’ve never had surgery before, but so far I’m not really nervous, but I’m sure I’ll get some butterflies once I get there. As for the car, mechanically it should be a lot of fun, aesthetically the car leaves a LOT to be desired at the moment. It really needs a full respray but I’m not a huge fan of aftermarket paint or the price required to get a good paint job. I’m thinking of having the exterior detailed, clay bared, and a multiple step polish/wax to see if I can get some shine back in the paint. But even then all the dings/dents/scratches still warrant a paint job :frowning:

colin- nice to hear your car is up & running. hmm your setup is very close to what Ill be running as well.

hope all goes well with the surgery. rest up and will talk with ya soon. post pics once your feeling better. Id love to see the motor:)

Say Colin,
I wouldn’t be nervous at all, you’ll be just fine. Just think, after the surgery (maybe after 2 weeks) maybe you’ll be speeding up and down the steets of LA again.

Just make sure that they don’t put you under for to long - just as they did with Michael Jackson…

surgery went smooth, quick procedure.

ryan, thanks! should be a great motor, i loved mine the first time and it’s gonna be even better now! some pics are up on flickr. photoset 1 photoset 2 i need to get a few more pics up but didn’t take many recently since i was wanting to get things finished and not stop for photos…

prior, thanks. might not be shifting for awhile, gotta find an auto trans car to drive.

(btw typing w one hand sucks)

let me know if you need rides anywhere in the meantime. i’ll help when i can! oh wait… you’re not around here, are you?

thanks gil! surgery was in san diego and i’ll be staying w my folks (mom is a nurse) until at least my post op on tue.

went through both of your albums. very nice build!

Good to hear your surgery went smothly. now hurry and get better so you can take that car for a drive:up:

redtegra, thanks!

glynn, thanks! thats the short term goal, long term is to make sure the shoulder is ready for snowboarding season which is fast approaching… i plan on getting it tuned w/in the month which is exciting but sucks that i still won’t be able to drive her!

all this talk of snowboarding is making me want to go. its been 2 years now since ive been up. I tried to get up once last winter and all i got out of it was a totaled 4 runner:(

bummer! those roads can be sketchy, thats why i bought my subaru!

I really feel sorry for you man. I never really knew how it felt to only be able to use one hand. I got stung by a bee a few days back and my who hand has been swelled up, red, and itchy. I cant use it to do anything or it gets irratated and swells up more.

Even thou mines hopefully only for a few days i still feel sorry for you. And keep up the good work on your car.

If you decide to do an oregon trip, and i work at the same ski resort this year hit me up. Free pass!

thanks sick_da, but don’t feel sorry for me! this was an elective operation, my shoulder has been dislocating more and more frequently over the past 2-3 yrs. if all goes well it wont do that anymore! (crosses fingers)

Congrats on the build. I’m just finishing something similar. Hope the tune fixes that idle.

What shoulder surgery did you get? I had screws in my labrum and thermal capsulorrhaphy (shrink the capsule with a heatgun) 5 years ago. That was for chronic dislocations, mainly from snowboarding. I’ve dislocated 2-3 times since then and it was way harder to get it back in, but haven’t dislocated in about 3 years now. Stay up on that rehab! The best thing for my shoulder is lots of gym time. Good luck with it

it was a torn labrum, they anchored it back down. there is also a hilsax defect which they left alone. if i have more problemsthen they might need to do something about that - i’m hoping no to have another surgery…

how long was your recovery? im hoping to be back riding full steam by january but that might be wishful thinking…

thanks for the support!

If you push yourself really hard, you can count on having problems later down the road. Just take the time to heal for the time being.
I had the same surgery when I was 23 years of age, I recall it being about 3 1/2 months till I was able to kick some ass…
Just take your time, because in my line of (Male Escort) work, I need all free moving parts to work in tune.

P.S. Did you you get the meds’, the ones I told you to ask for?
If you did, you should feel like superman right about now?:ohyeah:

I think I was in a sling for 2-3 weeks, then 3-4 months of slow rehab before going full force again. I dislocated while snowboarding within 6mo after surgery though…didn’t even fall, just landed a jump with speed at a quirky angle with my arms up. Definitely take your time and come back slowly. Also continue to work on strengthening you chest, back and shoulders once rehab is done and you’ve got good range of motion.

I’ve come to accept there are certain things i just shouldn’t do anymore…like tubing behind a boat or wrenching underneath the car with my bad arm and other things with weird external rotation. But that might be due to my particular surgery. I wouldn’t recommend the thermal capsulorrhaphy that I got or the surgery where they move that little bone across your shoulder, should you have further problems. With just a labrum repair and diligent PT, you should be in pretty good shape to ride hard late this season and hopefully avoid future problems:up:

thanks for the info!
