hey guys…this is my first small car and i was wondering if when the car is idling and i have the hood up if i am suppose to be able to hear the valves…it seems like i would but i wasnt sure…when i rev it to about 5 grand or so it starts to make a bit of a whinning noise but i wasnt sure if that was normal…thanks alot
It should not be loud to the point you can hear it. You may have to adjust your valves. Fairly easy processes. Check your oil too.
its not super loud…just loud enough to hear it…my car doesnt seem to be losing any oil but i didnt know if that was a sign that i didnt need a valve job
its normal. i had the same thoughts on that situation. i took it for a valve adjustment. (cause i was new for vtec engines) and they were not off at all. so i suppose it is just the cams and valves trying to get some oil or lubricated. because after that i dont hear that noise louder than before, it gets quieter as the car gets warmer. that was my case though.
