TDC wire for VAFC?

Just installed my VAFC2. The wiring diagram for our cars says there is no TDC ECU pinout, but according to my Helms, there IS one, not to mention tapping the DIST wire itself. Is the TDC connection neccesary for the VAFC?

i did not use the tdc wire when i installed my vafc.
